Compete, don’t compare – post lockdown, shows restarting

July 31, 2020 No Comments

Sat in my bed, where I seem to spend a scary amount of time at the moment, I realise how much lockdown has effected me. Less motivation, no plans, fewer goals, barely any reasons to get out of my pjs…. Then the posts start of people back out competing. How? How are they doing that? […]

The effect of fear in horses: brave or blind obedience

October 31, 2019 No Comments

As it’s Halloween, it felt somewhat poetic to talk about something scary… Have you see the video from the French CCI5*, Les Etoiles de Pau, of the horse jumping into the wall? If you haven’t seen it, yes, it’s as scary as it sounds. British Rider, Jack Pinkney, ended up veering through a gap in […]

The Inner Monologue – sports psychology meets anxiety

August 27, 2018 2 Comments

My second love, besides horses, is musical theatre. Oh, and Joey of course. Oh and Jack. Oh god, and Pie! He should have been first! Ok, it’s one of my loves. Musical theatre is something I am often inspired by. I produced a version of The Last Five Years by Jason Robert Brown a few […]

How far we have come

July 17, 2018 No Comments

We took Jack to Wellington on Saturday to do some show jumping. I made an error at fence 8 and had it down. I was annoyed with myself but took the lesson and moved forward. Then my mother said 5 magic word “Look how far you’ve come.” A few months ago, if Jack had so […]

Comeback take two

July 2, 2018 No Comments

My return to the show ring didn’t quite go to plan. So, this week, it is comeback take two! Tomorrow, we are off to Addington Equestrian Centre for a two day Sports Horse (GB) show. On day one, I will tackle the Novice Working Hunter and day two the Amateur. It’s a level down from […]

Not good enough

August 4, 2016 No Comments

A few years ago, I had someone call about a pony I had for sale. We chatted for a while and then she said “He sounds amazing but he is too good for me.” I was confused by this. Was he too much money? Was he unsafe? No, she just didn’t think she could do […]

About Me

“No hour of life is wasted that is spent in the saddle.” I consider myself to be fortunate to have had access to some of the most gifted horse men and women on the planet. I started riding at 12 – introduced to the horse world by American Horse Whisperer Monty Roberts and his protege Kelly Marks (who happens to be my aunt!). That was 1998 and my first foray into showing was in the Search for a Star final at the Horse of the Year Show that year – although clueless is the only word to describe my performance.
