November Equestrian Blog Hop: Ambition

November 29, 2017 1 Comment

I have many short comings but lack of ambition isn’t one of them! I knew I was ambitious from an early age -if I was going to do the Nativity, then I wanted to be Mary. And in horses it was no different, from the moment I sat on one, I was planning my show […]

October Equestrian Blog Hop – Halloween: Finding the fun

October 30, 2017 5 Comments

This month’s Equestrian Blog hop is all about Halloween, yard traditions, All Saints Day celebrations with horses and yard friends. But the truth is, I am not a big fan of Halloween. Growing up, my Gran was so truly English that she saw Halloween as something “very American” so not for us – saying “cute” […]

My Burghley winner – a story of generosity

September 6, 2017 1 Comment

I have absolutely loved The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials. I have loved the horses, the riders, the fashion (see previous blog where I got weirdly into fashion!), the incredible course and I have loved the coverage. Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it to the event but have so enjoyed the various coverage – particularly the […]

Winning the mind game in training

January 15, 2017 No Comments

“We are what we repeatedly do.” Aristotle. I love a good quote and Charlie Unwin used them to great effect in his talk entitled “Winning the mind game in training.” Sadly, this quote does mean I am late! I hate being late but I did get slightly lost getting to Charlie’s talk at the Rugby […]

The Sporting Mind – an evening with AP McCoy, Victoria Pendleton and Clare Balding

October 4, 2016 2 Comments

It is rare when you attend a talk because you love the interviewer rather than the interviewee but it was the case when I went to “The Sporting Mind – a select audience with Sir Anthony McCoy and Victoria Pendleton. Hosted by Clare Balding.”I love Clare and literally would do anything to have her job. […]

I’m going to be ok

September 19, 2016 6 Comments

Firstly, thank you to everyone who reads my blog. It started a year and a half ago as a little fun focus but it’s actually inspired me, challenged me and on this occasion maybe saved me a little bit. I wrote about my horsey confidence meltdown. The support, encouragement and advice I received was truly […]

No advice, no lessons – just honesty

August 21, 2016 26 Comments

Most of my blogs are designed to be informative or to teach something or are just hoping to make people smile or think. This one however, is just from the heart and honest. I have gone through a pretty tough time of late, as my first ever blog explained but even since then things haven’t […]

Not good enough

August 4, 2016 No Comments

A few years ago, I had someone call about a pony I had for sale. We chatted for a while and then she said “He sounds amazing but he is too good for me.” I was confused by this. Was he too much money? Was he unsafe? No, she just didn’t think she could do […]

A kind word costs nothing

October 6, 2015 2 Comments

It’s Horse of the Year Show week! So many people fight for their place to be there and so many fail to make it. But for the lucky few, the opportunity to see their name in lights is here. It is an achievement to be there and everyone should be proud. So why the nastiness? […]

Sports Personality – what makes a winner?

August 26, 2015 1 Comment

What an incredible few days of sport with the World Athletics Championships, the FEI European Championships, the Belgium Grand Prix… I have been glued to the TV. It has been inspiring, humbling and at times weirdly stressful! But what I have been most intrigued by is the different characters in the sports – successful sports […]

About Me

“No hour of life is wasted that is spent in the saddle.” I consider myself to be fortunate to have had access to some of the most gifted horse men and women on the planet. I started riding at 12 – introduced to the horse world by American Horse Whisperer Monty Roberts and his protege Kelly Marks (who happens to be my aunt!). That was 1998 and my first foray into showing was in the Search for a Star final at the Horse of the Year Show that year – although clueless is the only word to describe my performance.
