How Very Horsey

Everything will be OK….. But seriously, what the hell?!

May 2, 2025 2 Comments

You know those days where you’re trying to stay calm, positive, and full of perspective… But life keeps handing you plot twists like it’s auditioning for a soap opera? Yeah. That. The horse is suddenly lame, your lorry won’t start and to top it off, you’ve spilled tea on your jodhpurs before even getting to […]

Monday Motivation – stuck in a rider rut?

April 22, 2024 No Comments

Who wanted to stay in bed this morning? I did! Mondays can be tough particularly when you feel in a bit of a rut and it feels like it’s another Monday and nothing is shifting. Perhaps your pony time this weekend didn’t go as you hoped? Have you been stuck ‘ground hog day’ style for […]

Compete, don’t compare – post lockdown, shows restarting

July 31, 2020 No Comments

Sat in my bed, where I seem to spend a scary amount of time at the moment, I realise how much lockdown has effected me. Less motivation, no plans, fewer goals, barely any reasons to get out of my pjs…. Then the posts start of people back out competing. How? How are they doing that? […]

There is no ‘it’ in ‘team’

May 28, 2019 No Comments

“It’s got a voice today”, “Get it ready and I’ll get on it in a minute”, “It just isn’t playing ball today” These are just three examples of things I have heard being said at shows over the last few weeks and I have a question for these people. How do you expect to have […]

Happy New Year – let the writing commence

January 2, 2019 10 Comments

Happy New Year everyone! I am a big fan of a New Year. I would even go so far as to say that I would chose New Year over Christmas. (Sorry Santa!) Less presents but more a chance to regroup and start afresh. Lots of big intentions for 2019. I apologise for being quiet on […]

Bullying – thought I had grown out of it but apparently not

September 22, 2018 9 Comments

Reading the awful stories on the news recently about children being bullied at school brought back some painful memories for me: I didn’t have the nicest time at school. I was also there before social media and online bullying existed so dread to think how much harder it must be now. It was absolutely heartbreaking […]

A bad workman always blames his tools

June 4, 2018 3 Comments

Any regular readers will know I love a quote. I love it when you come across a quote for exactly what you are trying to say in such a perfect little bite sized snippet. Well, today the quote that feels right is “A bad workman always blames his tools.” Yesterday was a good day in […]

Didn’t know what to write, but now I do.

May 22, 2018 4 Comments

I have been quiet on my blog for a few weeks, not because I had nothing to write about but because I have been a bit lost as to how to write it. Now, I know. Today, we had the Physiotherapist come out to see Jack. He is fine but we have noticed he has […]

Making a song and dance of it – lessons from the theatre

April 5, 2018 No Comments

No blog post or YouTube video last week because I was treading the boards. I got rather sidelined with a week performing in “Showtime” at the Corn Exchange in Wallingford. I had a fantastic week but as always came away with lessons to apply to my horsey life. You can take the girl away from […]

Falling off to be a good rider – is that actually a thing?

March 6, 2018 No Comments

Joey got a scooter for Christmas. He loves his scooter. He is a little young for a scooter but is very active and we thought it would be something he would enjoy. He did some practice at home before venturing out to the local park and he was let loose. He fell off. Quite spectacularly […]

About Me

“No hour of life is wasted that is spent in the saddle.” I consider myself to be fortunate to have had access to some of the most gifted horse men and women on the planet. I started riding at 12 – introduced to the horse world by American Horse Whisperer Monty Roberts and his protege Kelly Marks (who happens to be my aunt!). That was 1998 and my first foray into showing was in the Search for a Star final at the Horse of the Year Show that year – although clueless is the only word to describe my performance.
